Interior design cost in Kolkata: plan your budget with confidence
Understand what an interior quotation should include, what changes the price and how to make a realistic room-by-room budget.
An interior budget works best when it starts with a clear list of work. Two Kolkata flats with the same floor area can need very different investments: one may already have usable flooring and electrical points, while another needs repairs before furniture can be installed.
At Ayaana Designs, the starting point is your space, priorities and budget. A measured site assessment and an itemised scope are more useful than a headline price per square foot.
What determines the cost?
Furniture and storage: Kitchen cabinets, wardrobes, a TV unit and a study each have different dimensions and internal fittings. Ask whether the measurement includes shutters, lofts and internal partitions.
Materials and finishes: Compare the specified board, thickness, finish, edge treatment and hardware model. A photograph alone does not define a specification.
Site work: Electrical changes, plumbing, painting, ceiling work and repairs need separate quantities. Check what can be retained before deciding to replace it.
Installation and access: Delivery arrangements, lift access, permitted working hours and protection of common areas can affect execution planning.
Build a budget in layers
Start with essentials: a functional kitchen, required storage, safe electrical work and repairs. Add comfort items such as study furniture, better lighting and curtains. Keep decorative upgrades in a third list so they can be adjusted without losing the core design.
For illustration only, if you choose a total allowance of ₹10 lakh and reserve ₹1 lakh for contingencies, the planned scope must fit within the remaining ₹9 lakh. This is a budgeting example, not an Ayaana package price or a Kolkata market quotation. Your own allocation should follow the surveyed condition of the property.
Compare quotations fairly
- Request a room-by-room description with dimensions and quantities.
- Match material grades and hardware specifications across proposals.
- Check whether installation, transport, taxes and debris removal are included.
- Separate appliances, loose furniture and furnishings from fixed work.
- Agree how additional work will be priced and approved.
Public pricing pages often show starting prices tied to a limited specification. Livspace's cost guide, for example, describes prices as approximate and dependent on requirements. Use headline offers as a prompt for questions, not a substitute for a detailed quote.
Before you request a proposal
Share your floor plan, possession status, preferred move-in date and a short list of must-haves. Include photographs of the existing rooms and mention items you want to reuse.
